Anthony E. DeTeso "The General", 88, of Stoneham, died on Friday March 26 at the Woburn Nursing Center.

Born in Calabria, Italy on June 21, 1921 he was the son of the late Salvatore and Rosa (Mazzei) DeTeso.

Mr. DeTeso was a graduate of Winchester High School, Class of 1940 and Tufts University, Class of 1944 and received his master's degree from Tufts in 1946. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. DeTeso was a former teacher at Melrose, Stoneham and Wilmington High School. He was also head football and baseball coach at Wilmington and Stoneham High School and later became the Athletic Director at Melrose High School. Anthony had also been honored by being inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for the towns of Winchester and Melrose and also Tufts University. He was instrumental in starting the Stoneham Little League in 1950 and also the Stoneham Pee Wee Hockey program in 1960.

Mr. DeTeso was the Stoneham Representative for the Northeast Regional Vocational School from 1987 to present.

Mr. DeTeso was the beloved husband of 61 years to the late Margaret Mary (McDonald) DeTeso. He was the devoted father of Elizabeth Carr, Neil DeTeso and his wife Patty of Stoneham, Susan McClory and her husband Paul of Melrose, and Alan DeTeso and his wife Jackie of Schenectady, NY. He was the grandfather of Jeffrey, Christian, Rachel, Jillian, Steven, and Annie DeTeso and Maggie and Paul McClory and great grandfather of Will, Sophie, Jesse, Nathan and Grace DeTeso. Mr. DeTeso was predeceased by his two brothers, Rocco and Dante DeTeso and two sisters, Virginia DeTeso and Mary Antonuccio.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Tuesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10 o'clock. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Lindenwood Cemetery in Stoneham.
