Eileen "Dee" McCarthy, 71, of Wakefield, died on Wednesday, September 1 at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury.
Born in Providence, RI on August 5, 1939 she was the daughter of the late Edward J. Jr. and Eileen (Burke) Doyle.
Mrs. McCarthy was a graduate of Wellesley High School, Class of 1957 and Catherine Laboure School of Nursing in Dorchester. She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and later practiced nursing at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington D.C. Dee had been a resident of Wakefield since 1966 and was a member of St. Joseph Church.
Mrs. McCarthy was the wife of Henry W. McCarthy. She was the mother of Christine McCarthy and her husband Mark Manzelli of Dunwoody, GA, Dawn McCarthy of Arlington, VA, Justin McCarthy and his wife Bonnie of Long Beach, CA, Maura McCarthy of Rockport, Tara McCarthy of Wakefield, Deidre Marshall and her husband Roger of Overland Park, KS and Shauna McCarthy of Arlington, VA. She was the sister of Kathleen Edmonds of Charleston, SC, Maureen Butler of Mattapoisett, Ned Doyle of Longmeadow, Mary Krasinski of Newton and Denise Crans of Silver Spring, MD. She was the grandmother of Kash, Sean, Dylan, Brendan and Ethan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne.
