William Joyce

William J. Joyce, 96, of Wakefield, died Sunday, December 19 at his home.

Born in Wakefield, on October 18, 1914, he was the son of the late John J. and Anne (Duggan) Joyce.

Mr. Joyce was a graduate of Wakefield High School and Bentley College. He was a retired police officer for the town of Wakefield and had served for 33 years. He also served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of the VFW and the Blind Veterans Association.

Mr. Joyce was the husband of Catherine E. (Farrell). He was the father of John Joyce and his wife Beth of Reading, William Joyce of Boston, Mary Ann Dennis of Malden, and Patricia A. Joyce of Peabody. He was the brother of Dorothy Pignatelli of Reading, Ruth Yanish of PA, and the late Mary Keefe and Catherine Garvin. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Erin and John Joyce and Veronica Dennis and by his close family friend Joseph Bonales.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 9am followed by a funeral mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10:00 o'clock. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 until 8pm. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, 48 Boylston St., Boston, MA, 02116.
