Emblem

Alan M. DiPiero, age 84 of Wakefield, died on Sunday April 13 at his residence.

He was born in Boston on July 27, 1940 and was the son of the late Anthony and Gertrude (Kurtzer) DiPiero.

Alan grew up in the South End of Boston and had a passion for flying and aviation from a very young age. He joined the Civil Air Patrol at age 14 and enlisted in the US Air Force at the age of 17.

His travels over the course of his career took him around the globe many times, and gave him the opportunity to live abroad for over a decade. With his quick smile and dry wit, he easily made friends in many continents. When he returned to the states, he flew as a Captain for several airlines before ending his illustrious career with UPS. Alan always said he never “worked a day in his life, because he loved what he did with such a passion.” Being up in the clouds was like a second home to him. In later life, Alan joined the Quiet Birdman Association, to continue and expand his connection to fellow aviators.

Alan was also an avid boater (on his beloved boat, “The Maryann”) in both Massachusetts and Fort Lauderdale (where he was an active snowbird for many years.)

In later years, he became involved in the North Shore Corvettes Club where he got to “Pilot” his red corvette with the roof down and 60’s music blaring. He will be missed by everyone he touched.

He was the loving husband of Patricia (Smith-Allen) DiPiero. He was the beloved father of David DiPiero and his wife Diane of Enfield, CT. He was the grandfather of Elizabeth, Monica, and Brice DiPiero. He was the brother to Robert DiPiero of Stoneham, the late Roslyn (Dipiero) Milero and her late husband Lou of Brockton, and Anthony DiPiero and his wife Kim of Palm Coast Florida. He was the beloved uncle to Michael, Richard, and Mark Milero and his wife Karen, Beverly and Daniel DiPiero and spouses of Florida, and Gary and Tammy DiPiero of Saugus. He was the great uncle to Lauren and Noah DiPiero and Marissa Milero. He is also survived by many beloved friends here and around the world. Alan was predeceased by his former wife Mary Ann DiPiero.
