Alan J. Simpson, age 80, of Wakefield passed away at his residence on December 30, 2024. He was born in Medford on May 16, 1944 to the late Kenneth L. and Bertha M. (Dame) Simpson.
Mr. Simpson was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era and had been a Wakefield resident since 1977. Mr. Simpson had worked as a driver for UPS in Watertown, Chelmsford, and Norwood. After a tenured career he retired but soon went back to work as a custodian at the Galvin Middle School of Wakefield.
A proud grandfather, Mr. Simpson attended every event he could in support of his grandchildren. In his younger years he actively participated in Men’s League softball. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed cribbage, and had a recent interest in puzzles and Sudoku. He was gentle and kind and everyone loved him.
He was the beloved husband of the late Sally L. (Smith). He was the loving father of Pamela Kent and her husband Jeremy of Wakefield, and James Simpson and his wife Priscilla of Woburn. He was the brother of Richard Simpson (wife Helen) of Methuen and the late Hazel Gosselin (her surviving husband Walter) and the late Merle Kay (surviving husband Charles Kay of FL). He was the grandfather of Alex, Rachel, Jared, Avery, and Camryn.
His Funeral Service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday, January 4 at 11:30AM. Interment to follow at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday from 4-7PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veterans charity of your choice.
