Albert
Boyages
, 85, of West Yarmouth and Naples, Florida formerly of Wakefield and Lynnfield died on Wednesday, October 27 at the Eagle Pond Rehabilitation Center in South Dennis.
Born in Chelsea on August 22, 1925 he was the son of the late Elefterious and Marianthi (Paitongi) Boyadgis.
Mr.
Boyages
was a former resident of Wakefield. A lifelong sports enthusiast,. He along with his brother Zack
Boyages
started the Wakefield Youth Basketball program and ran it for several years.
Al was also a long time area high school basketball official and was a past president of IAABO Board 130. He was an avid local softball player for many years serving as Player Manager for the West Side Social Club team. Prior to that he played amateur and semi pro baseball and basketball for a variety of area, often teaming with his brother Zack.
A graduate of Tufts University, Al was also an infielder on the celebrated 1950 Tufts baseball team which participated in the first ever College World Series played at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha. That team qualified for the World Series by being named the best Division 1 team in New England and represented the region well beating Bradley University before being eliminated by the University of Texas.
Al was credited with jumpstarting the Jumbo's magical run with a grand slam homerun to tie up the season's opening game against Upsala. Tufts went on to win that game and finished the regular season 16-4.
In May of this year, the Boston Red Sox honored that Tufts team on its 60th anniversary with a ceremony at Fenway Park prior to a Red Sox-Toronto Blue Jays game.
He enrolled at Tufts following a stint in the Marine Corps during World War II. Al was also a graduate of Chelsea High School.
After a 10 year stint in Wakefield, Mr.
Boyages
moved to Lynnfield where he resided with his family for many years. He was employed by Raytheon and worked as an engineer for their Missile Systems Division in Andover and Bedford for 34 years.
An extremely passionate golfer, he was a long time member of both the Thompson and Salem Country Clubs. He enjoyed a lengthy retirement splitting his time between a residence in Naples Florida and one on Cape Cod.

. He was the father of Scott
Boyages
and his wife Linda of Tewksbury. He was the brother of Zack
Boyages
of Wakefield and the late Peter Boyadgis and Andrea McGonigle. He was the grandfather of Christopher and Gregory.
A funeral service will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Monday at 7pm. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home prior to the service from 4-7pm.
