Alexander J. Struzziero, 93, of Wakefield passed away at the Melrose – Wakefield Hospital Friday, Oct. 22.
Born in East Boston on June 10, 1917, he was the son of the late Erminio and Ester (Mottolla) Struzziero.
Mr. Struzziero was a graduate of St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers and also Northeastern University where he is honored in the university's Hall of Fame for both baseball and track & field. He had been a Wakefield resident since 1948, was a member of St. Joseph Church, the Bear Hill Golf Club and Wakefield Rotary International. Mr. Struzziero had belonged to the Ancient & Honorable Artillery, was a past president of the Lynn Chamber of Commerce and had also been a member of the board of Trustees for the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. Alexander served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and later went on to work for General Electric and was even owner of the Sterling Machine Co. of Lynn.
Mr. Struzziero was the husband of the late Esther (Hakey) Struzziero. He was the father of Alexander E. Struzziero and his wife Patricia of Westford, Robert Struzziero and his wife Marie of Swampscott and Carole Harris and her husband Michael of Boxford. Alexander was the brother of Anthony Struzziero of Saugus and the late Ernest Struzziero and Mary Turino. He is survived by his grandchildren Kerriann, Jessica, Jacquelyn, and Rachel and also 3 great grandchildren.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. A period of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday 4 – 8 pm. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
