Alfred W. Harris, Jr., a Wakefield resident since 1951, died on Wednesday, May 13 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
Born in Melrose on October 30, 1922, he was the son of the late Alfred W. and Lottie (Allfrey) Harris.
Mr. Harris was raised in Malden and Saugus. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired Quality Control Manager for Kytron.
Mr. Harris was a member of the West Congregational Church of Peabody and also the A.F & A.M. Golden Rule Lodge. He loved golfing and was a member of the Senior League at Hillview Golf Club in Reading.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife Eleanor G. (Berthel) Harris with whom he shared 63 years of marriage, his two sons, William R. Harris of Wheaton, IL and Clark S. Harris and his fiancé Sally Goff of Pembroke NH, his daughter, Carolyn R. Jean and her husband Paul of Concord, NC and two sisters, Mildred Foran of Melrose, FL and Peggy Logan of Malden. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Rebekah C., Joanna P. and Sarah B. Harris and Joseph K. and Benjamin C. Harris. Mr. Harris was predeceased by his brother Frederick Harris and sister Dorothy Keene.
A funeral service will be held at the West Congregational Church of Peabody, 27 Johnson St., Peabody on Saturday at 11 am. Relatives and friends may call at the church one hour prior to the funeral service from 10 – 11 am. Interment will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
