Arthur W. Sheppard, 84, a longtime Wakefield resident died on Wednesday October 7 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Chelsea on October 1, 1925 he was the son of the late Stephen and Mertice (MacNeil) Sheppard.
Mr. Sheppard was a graduate of North Reading High School, class of 1944. He was a retired traffic manager for Goodall Sanford in Reading. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and served his country honorably in many South Pacific battles during WWII. Arthur was especially proud to have been selected as a Grand Marshall of the 200l Fourth of July Parade honoring WWII veterans.
Mr. Sheppard had been a Wakefield resident for 57 years and was a member of St. Joseph parish in Wakefield.
Mr. Sheppard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie V. (Jacquard) Sheppard. He was the father of William A. of Hudson, NH, John K. of Belmont, NH, Thomas B. of Salem, NH, Andrew D. of Chelsea, Mary Elizabeth (Sheppard) Coye of Litchfield, NH, Leonard K. of Brighton, Robert A. of Wakefield and the late Stephen P. Sheppard. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Charles of FL, Bertram and Ronald both of Stoneham and the late John, Ann, Peter, George, Alice Edward, Alan, Robert and Lawrence.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St. Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
