Barbara Bean, 89, a life long resident of Lynnfield, died on Wednesday, September 7 at the Daniels House in Reading.
Born in Lynnfield on March 16, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Gladys (Ward) Woodbury.
Barbara was a graduate of Wakefield High School and Melrose-Wakefield School of Nursing. During World War II she served in the U.S. Navy and held the rank of Lt. (JG). She had worked as a Registered Nurse at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital before her retirement.
Barbara was a member of the Centre Congregational Church in Lynnfield. She enjoyed gardening and traveling.
She was the wife of the late Frederick R. Bean. She was the mother of David W. Bean and his wife Claudia of Smithtown, NY, Martha B. Smith and her husband Robert H. of Portland, ME, Christopher R. Bean and his wife Sharon L. of Concord, NH, Barbara Van Gelder and her husband James of Lynnfield and Bradley W. Bean of Methuen. She was the sister of Virginia Davis of Lynnfield, Bruce Woodbury of Reading and the late Gladys Davis, Beatrice Lyon and Muriel Russell. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at the Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St., Lynnfield on Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield. There are no visiting hours.
In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to the Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St., Lynnfield, MA 01940.
