Bernard J . Hopkins , 84, of Wakefield, died on Sunday, July 14 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.

Born in Lynn on February 12, 1929 he was the son of the late Patrick and Delia (McGrath) Hopkins .

Mr. Hopkins was a native of Lynn and a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Lynn. He was retired from the Mass Gas & Electric Co.

Mr. Hopkins had been a resident of Wakefield for 52 years. He was a longtime member of the Wakefield Knights of Columbus and also a member of the Sons of Italy in Wakefield.

Mr. Hopkins was the husband of Virginia A. (Capone) Hopkins with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. He was the father of John J . Hopkins of North Reading and Patricia A. Dente and her husband Michael of Reading. He was the brother of the late John & Joseph Hopkins , Mary Nicholson, Patricia D'Allesio, Peggy Tweedie & Sally Phillips and the brother-in-law of Lillain Raffael of Wakefield. He was the grandfather of Matthew, Mark & Michael Dente, John J . Hopkins , Jr. & Melanie Hopkins and the great grandfather of Skylar Grace Hopkins . He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, 320 Haverhill St., Reading, MA 01867.
