Betty J. O'Neil, 88, of Lynnfield passed away peacefully at the Union Hospital in Lynn early Wednesday morning, Jan. 9.
Betty was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, and grew up there before moving to New York City in her early 20s. She met John E. O'Neil, a native of Saugus there, and they married on September 5, 1953.
They settled in Lynnfield in 1955 and she spent the rest of her years there and at their camp in Sidney, ME.
Betty worked for Northrup Associates and the Kimball law firm, both in Lynnfield, before retiring at age 69.
She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, John E. O'Neil, her son, John K. O'Neil of Methuen, and daughter, Jayne K. Cole of Port Charlotte, Florida, her granddaughters, Julie and Sarah O'Neil of Methuen and grandsons, Tyler, Justin and Nathan Cole of Middletown, R.I. Betty is also survived by many close friends and neighbors.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Salvation Army, 209 Broadway #233, Saugus, MA 01906.
