Beverly A. McHatton

Beverly A. McHatton, age 87 of N. Reading, formerly of Chelsea, died on Saturday, October 5 at Royal Meadowview in N. Reading. Beverly touched the lives of all who knew her with her kindness, wisdom, and boundless love.

She was born on July 16, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Irving and Alice (Mathisen) Bengtson.

Beverly was a graduate of Chelsea High School and received her associates degree in accounting from Salem State College. She worked at Metropolitan Credit Union, Northeast Petroleum, and Houghton Mifflin Publishing Co. before retiring. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, raising her family and spending time with her extended family and many friends. She was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it and was well known for memorizing every birthday, anniversary and more for everyone she knew. In Beverly’s later years she faced the challenges of dementia. Yet, even as her memory faded, the core of who she was remained clear. She never lost her love for music and family and would amaze us whenever she would sing all the words of a song even when she could no longer speak clearly.

She had a special connection with so many of the nurses, aides, activity coordinators and staff at Royal Meadowview who took such good care of her and often treated her to her favorite sweets.

Beverly was the wife of the late John A. “Jack” McHatton, Jr. She was the loving mother of John McHatton and his wife Diane of N. Reading, James McHatton and his wife Diane of Lynn, Alicia “Lisa” Dwyer and her husband Stephen of Lynnfield, and Lynn McHatton and her husband James Bishop of Ft. Myers, FL. She was the beloved Nana of Haley and her husband Joel, Alex, Jessica, and Stephen Jr. Beverly was also the sister of the late Billy and Dougie Bengtson and sister-in-law of Mary and the late Vincent Cosco, Kathy and Doc Hobbs, Millie and Arthur Deleidi, Anita and Joe Mauro, and Billy and Debbie McHatton. She is also survived by many special cousins, nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday October 14th at 4-7pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Maria Goretti in Lynnfield on Tuesday October 15th at 10am. Interment, at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
