Carl Wood

Carl W. Wood, 93, of Reading and a former longtime resident of Lynnfield, died on Wednesday, April 24 at the Lawrence General Hospital.

Born in Chelsea on April 1, 1920 he was the son of the late Arthur E. and Grace (Jackson) Wood.

Carl was a graduate of Everett High School and Boston University. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force 100th Bomb Group, stationed in Thorpe Abbots, England in WWII. He worked for 39 years as an Accountant and Budget Analyst at John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company in Boston.

Carl was a Past-Master of Galilean Masonic Lodge in Everett, a member of the Aleppo Temple Guard in Wilmington and the Scottish Rite in Boston. He was a Little League coach and Assistant Boy Scout leader in Lynnfield. He also taught Sunday school at the Centre Congregational Church in Lynnfield for many years.

He was the husband of the late Olive G. (Morrison) Wood with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. He was the father of Cynthia Schaefer and her husband Daniel of Murrels Inlet, SC and Robert C. Wood and his wife Annie Ying of Haverhill. He was the grandfather of Christopher Schaefer of Lowell and Major Alec S. Leung of Albuquerque NM.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St., Lynnfield on Friday, June 7th at 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Centre Congregational Church.

Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield.
