Carlo Pedros

Carlo Pedros, of Wakefield, MA passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the age of 91. He was the beloved husband to the late Gay Louise (Laura). He is survived by Philip Pedros and Cynthia George (Pedros) and her husband Ajit, his cherished grandchildren Benjamin and Isabel, his twin, Renato and wife, Cristina, sisters-in-law, Carole Savigni (Laura), Anna Maria Pedros, and many nieces and nephews.

Carlo was born in Naples, Italy on July 9, 1933. He and Renato were the youngest of five siblings born to the late Filippo Pedros from Valencia, Spain, and Anna (Viola) Pedros from Naples, Italy. Even as a little boy during World War II, Carlo was always building something. He told us of building a little suitcase with a rope handle to carry his toys around because on several occasions he emerged from air raid shelters to find his neighborhood in ruins. Despite these tumultuous times, Carlo maintained a positive and optimistic view, reflected in one of his common phrases was, “Well, let’s see what happens!”

After the war, the twins excelled in gymnastics, and Carlo competed in national tournaments throughout Italy, but advancement in the sport was cut short in 1952 when he broke his neck. Always, the optimist, Carlo, made a full recovery and reentered sports by excelling in weightlifting again, taking the gold medal in many competitions. Carlo completed 2 years of mandatory military service in the Italian Army stationed in Verona, Italy as a radar operator before emigrating to the United States in 1956 and joining his oldest brother, Amedeo, in Connecticut.

During a visit to Cape Cod and the National Seashore, Carlo met his life partner and future wife, Gay Louise Laura, and was soon visiting the Boston area every weekend eventually finding work in MA as a cabinet maker. Carlo and Gay were married in July 1961, settled in Wakefield to raise their family, and beautifully restore and renovate a 1830s farmhouse where they lived for over 50 years.

Carlo completed accounting classes at Northeastern University and worked as an accountant for several years before moving to a position that satisfied his desire for creativity combined with his need to build things. His vast woodworking skills landed him a job with AVCO-Lycoming working as a technician on the heat shield for the Apollo Space Program. He eventually joined General Electric in Lynn where he completed their multi-year, in-house management training program. After 28 years, he retired from GE as the supervisor of the carpentry shop before being recognized for creating a model for heat transfer analysis used during engine development. It was these special projects he really enjoyed because of the direct collaboration with the engineers and the opportunity to apply his amazing creativity. Carlo was known to eagerly lend a hand to family and friends and was widely recognized for being able to fix anything.

A true people person, Carlo and Gay loved to host company and entertain at their warm and welcoming home. The holidays were filled with family, friends, and lots of food, including his signature dishes of artichokes and roasted peppers. During his retirement, Carlo was grateful to have been able to make several trips back to Italy with Gay so she could spend time with his family and lifelong friends and experience where he grew up. Carlo also treasured his time in his shop or Phil’s, whistling and working on the next project! Carlo had a lighthearted sense of humor and an appreciation of the important elements of life, family and friends. He will be missed but take comfort knowing he is finally reunited with Gay and his family and friends who have passed.
