Carmela Doto

Carmela Doto, age 91, a longtime Somerville resident, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2020.

Born in Chiusano, Italy on February 14, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Michele and Maria (Muollo) Lanzetta.

Born and raised in Italy, Mrs. Doto moved her family to the United States in the 1970's in pursuit of opportunity for her children. The family first settled in the North End of Boston before moving to Somerville. She loved to cook and host her family; Sunday afternoons in the kitchen were filled with stories, laughs and lots of pasta. Carmela and her late husband maintained a residence in their hometown of Chiusano, Italy and together they enjoyed spending their summers there and hosting the family. Dedicated to her faith, Carmela attended mass every week until her health began to fail. She will be remembered by her family for her strength, her food, and her illuminating smile.

She was the beloved wife of the late Francesco Doto. She was the loving mother of Michael Doto and his wife Nancy of Lynnfield, Ermelindo Doto and his partner Lynn Kurker of Boston, and Tiziano Doto and his wife Allyson of Wakefield. She was the cherished grandmother of Alessandro, Alexandra, Daniela, and Matthew Doto and the late Michael Franco Doto. She is also survived by numerous extended family members and dear friends.

Funeral Services were private. Entombment was held at the Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in Malden. Arrangements were in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
