Carol S . Carter , age 83, a longtime Lynnfield resident, died Wednesday, July 22 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Lima, Ohio on July 23, 1936 she was the daughter of the late Lowell K. and Zelma (Brower) Shaffer.
Mrs. Carter was raised and educated in Delphos, Ohio. She received her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and her master's degree in education from Salem State University. She taught for a couple of years in Ipswich before enjoying a long tenure of 25 years in the Lynnfield Public Schools. Carol worked at the South School and later Huckleberry Hill School where she taught second, third and fourth grade and served as a reading instructor until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of the Centre Congregational Church in Lynnfield. She was a lover of all crafts, most especially quilting. She also enjoyed taking trips, most notably two trips with her husband to Norway and summers spend in coastal Maine.
She is survived by her husband Richard B. Carter , whom she married in 1958; her son, Kenneth Carter and his wife Bethanne of Peabody; her brother, Kenneth Shaffer and his wife Yvonne of Ohio; her grandchildren, Steve, Sam, and Kim; and great grandchildren, Connor, Chase, and Evan.
At this time, no services have been planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Arrangements in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
