Cecile L. (Tardif) Joly, 80, formerly of Wakefield, died peacefully, surrounded by family, at Meadow View Care and Rehabilitation Center in North Reading, MA on September 8, 2012.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on September 14, 1931, she was youngest of ten children of the late Josephat and Eugenie (Parenteau) Tardif. After being raised in Woonsocket, she attended Our Lady of the Mountain Academy in Gorham, NH, from which she graduated with the class of 1949.
Prior to raising her family of eight children, Mrs. Joly worked as a receptionist. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was musically inclined, and loved to sing, dance and play piano. She was proud of her French Canadian heritage and remained fluent in French throughout her life.
Mrs. Joly also loved to learn and completed a substantial number of Liberal Arts courses. After relocating to California, she worked for the IRS for ten years.
Mrs. Joly was the mother of Eugene J. Joly and his wife Siri of CA, Dr. J. Michael Joly and his late wife Marianne of MD, Jeannette M. Narbonne and her husband Peter of CA, James M. Joly and his wife Debra of Wakefield, Virginia A. Simeone and her husband Richard J. of Reading, Celia E. Barselou and her husband Michael of Haverhill, Rose Marie Joly of NH and Mary-Ellen Dixon and her husband Joseph of Beverly. She was the sister of Rose Caron and Simonne Desrosiers, both of RI and the late Philippe, Paul, Eugene, Harris, Gerard, Lionel Tardif and Jeanne Belba. She was the grandmother of Anneliese, Helena, Eugene, Joanna, Juliet, Janine, Jeannette, Suzanne, Peter, Jennifer, Angela, Renée, Michael, Natalie, Richard, Jacqueline, Jeanna, Stephen, Eli, Evelyn, Abigail, Ethan and the late James Michael. She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren, close friend and sister-in-law, Gabrielle Joly of CA, her lifelong friend, Jeanne Marquis of RI, many nieces and nephews, and her former husband, Dr. Eugene M. Joly of FL.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the many kind caregivers to Cecile from Meadow View, SolAmor Hospice and Atria Marland Place.
A funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday, September 14, at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10:00 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Private interment will be at St. James Cemetery in Manville, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cecile's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
