Charlene May Hill, age 81, of Danvers, formerly of Wakefield passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her on Wednesday, April 16.
She was born in Somerville on March 30, 1944 and was the daughter of the late Harold and Evelyn (Holoway) Ellis.
She was raised in Somerville and later moved to Saugus to raise her family. She met the love of her life, David Hill, and the two married and settled in Wakefield where they were longtime residents. Together they were members of the West Side Social Club, where she most enjoyed volunteering during the Fourth of July events. She had worked as a bartender at the former Lord Wakefield for more than 45 years. Charlene loved to garden and to walk around Lake Quannapowitt. She also loved traveling with her husband.
Charlene was the beloved wife of the late Banks David Hill. She was the loving mother of Robert Mahan and his wife Kim of Danvers, Sharon Talbot of Hampton, NH, and Diane Veroneau and her husband Kevin of Sanford, ME. She was the sister of Joan Gosselin and her husband Richard of Hookset, NH, Lloyd Cheney and his wife Deb of Fairhaven, and the late Charles “Skip” Ellis and Donna Shepherd. She was the sister-in-law of Margaret “Peg” Campbell of Reading. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ashley Tripp and her husband Jeremey, Amanda Murray and her fiancé Tyler Silva, Samantha Murray and her fiancé Sean Curtis, Crystal Mahan and her fiancé Chris Walsh, and Kyle Mahan; as well as her two great grandchildren, Emma and Owen Tripp, and many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday, April 25 at 12 noon. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home prior to the service from 10am-12pm.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents, turned friends, at Brightview Assisted Living in Danvers for their care and support for Charlene.
