Charles Bartlett

Charles E. Bartlett, age 96, of Hinesburg, VT, formerly of Wakefield, MA and Blue Hill, ME passed away on Monday, May 14 at his residence in Hinesburg, VT surrounded by family.

He was born in Malden, MA on January 2, 1922 and was the son of the late Joseph and Freda (Caffarella) Bartlett.

Mr. Bartlett was raised in Malden, MA and graduated from Malden High School, Class of 1941. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in April 1941 and served during World War II acquiring the rank of Sergeant. He was Honorably Discharged on September 11, 1945. He then became the Commandant of the Marine Corp League of Malden, MA.

Upon his discharge he worked for the US Postal Service in Wakefield, MA for 27 years, first as a letter carrier and later as an Auditor of Business Accounts. In his earlier days he worked as a bartender and limousine driver. He chauffeured many important people, among them King Farouk of Egypt and his many wives.

Charles was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 54 years Gertrude C. (Callahan) Bartlett. He was the loving father of Jean C. Hylan and her husband Doug of Brooklin, ME, Catherine M. Rossignol of Surry, ME, Charles J. Bartlett and his wife Marie of Hinesburg, VT, and the late Thomas "Jude" Bartlett. He was the cherished grandfather of Jake Bartlett, Caitlyn and Grace Hylan, and Aubrey, Brandon and Melissa Sheehan. He is also survived by two great grandchildren: Odin Sheehan and Isabella Tirado.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Freda, Isabelle, Maude, and Gladys and his brother, Joseph.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, MA on Saturday at 9:00 am followed by a Funeral Mass at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10:00 am. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home on Friday from 3:00-7:00 pm.

There will be a luncheon at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Wakefield, MA in the Colonial Room Restaurant for family and friends following the interment.
