Charles C . "Chuck" Curran , Jr . age 65 of Wakefield died Monday January 13 after a long period of failing health, surrounded by his family and friends.

Born in Winchester on December 26, 1948 the son of Katherine Jean (Cassidy) Curran of Wakefield and the late Charles C . Curran .

Chuck was a life long Wakefield resident and a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1967. He was retired from the Wakefield Municipal Gas and Light Department as a Superintendant of the Gas Division. He had worked there for more than 30 years. He served in the United States Air Force, coached in the Wakefield Little League, Wakefield Youth Basketball League and also coached in the Challenger Basketball League. He was an avid and well known runner in Wakefield and had competed on more than one occasion in the Boston and New York City Marathons with his best time of 2 hours 33 minutes 21 sec. He was also a member of the Wakefield Lodge of Elks and the West Side Social Club.

Chuck was the beloved husband of Eileen L. (Duncan). He was the loving father of Christopher C . Curran and wife Alyson of Reading, Colleen E. Abcunas and husband Brian of Danvers, Courtney A. Hunt and husband Christopher and Charles C . Curran , III and wife Caroline all of Wakefield. He was the brother of Thomas Curran and wife Catherine of Gloucester, Mark Curran of Wakefield, Patricia Freda of NH, Rosemarie Curran of Wakefield, Shirley Palmerino & husband Michael of Wakefield and Diane Yamartino and husband Jim of NH. He was the loving grandfather of Ella, Sam, Jack, Harry and Natalie.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield on Friday at 9am followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church 173 Albion St. Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8pm Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital Trust Fund, 1 Autumn St., #731, Boston, MA 02215-5301.
