Charles J (James) Chisholm of Stoneham passed away on October 26, 2021 in hospice care after a long illness.
Charlie, as he was known to friends and family, was born and raised in East Somerville, Massachusetts in 1945. An exceptional student, Charlie went on to Boston College on scholarship. Upon graduating with Boston College, Charlie embarked on a career as an educator which spanned over 5 decades, most notably at Boston Latin Academy, South Boston Heights Academy, Malden Catholic High School and Bunker Hill Community College. While at Bunker Hill Community College, Charlie became a full professor and Chapter President of the BHCC faculty association.
Simultaneously, along with his career in education, Charlie became a near fixture in the Somerville political scene running for various public offices from 1968 to 2015. He served as Ward 1 School Committee Man from 1971-1973 and Ward 1 Alderman from 1975-1977. His political career also included runs for Essex County Commissioner and Sheriff during the 1990s.
An avid downhill skier, Charlie traveled often to ski areas throughout New England, Utah, Colorado, Nevada, and British Columbia. He was happiest skiing Snowbird Mountain outside of Salt Lake City in Utah...earning him the nickname..."The Great Snowbird".
Charlie leaves behind his sister (Debra Martell) and her children (Matthew, Jeffrey, Kelly) as well as many close friends.
A wake for Charlie will be held on Saturday, December 4 from 12-2pm at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham MA 02180.
