Charlotte Heger

Charlotte Margaret Heger, age 92, a longtime Wakefield resident, died Sunday, October 4 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Salem on July 26, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Henry and Edith (Jones) Edmonson.

Charlotte had been a longtime Wakefield resident, having raised her family in town with her former husband, the late Hans Heger. She had worked many years as a manager for Dynamic Research in coordination with NASA. After retirement, she moved to Lakeland, FL and worked part-time as manager at two golf courses. Charlotte was a member of the Wakefield Elks and was also very active in the Wakefield Senior Center. She was a great cook and was famous for her corned beef and cabbage.

She is survived by her son, Stephen Heger and his husband Michael McCarthy of Ogunquit, ME; her daughter, Shirley Hale and her partner Jack Walters of Loudon, NH; her partner of 20 years, Thomas Campbell of Wakefield; and her two grandsons, Seth Hale and his wife Pennie of Bowdon, ME and Tyler Hale and his wife Kelsea of Northwood, NH. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday from 11am-1pm. A Graveside Service will be held at the Forest Glade Cemetery, Lowell St., Wakefield following the visitation on Thursday at 1:30pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

COVID-19 guidelines will be in effect. Those attending visitation should wear a mask and are asked to kindly pay their respects to the family and exit the building to allow for all visitors to greet the family. Those planning to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:30pm.
