Claire Klapes, a life-longWakefield resident, died at her home on Saturday November 16.
Born in Wakefield on August 24, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Ensell and Florence (Butler) Shaw.
Mrs. Klapes was a graduate of Wakefield High School and also was a graduate of the Melrose – Wakefield Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Klapes served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict as a Nurse and rose to the rank of Lieutenant J.G. She worked for many years as a nurse at the Melrose – Wakefield Hospital.
Mrs. Klapes was the beloved wife of Benjamin C. Klapes. She was the loving mother of Arlyn C. Stretton and her late husband Tim of Middleton, Carla J. Pennacchio and her husband Dr. Joseph L. of Reading, Maurine Long and her husband Doug of Tampa, FL., and the late Roger E. and Kevin E. DuClos. She was the sister of John and William Shaw, and the late Mary I. Shaw, and Jean Talledge. She was the cherished grandmother of Michael, Timothy, Jonathan, Nina, Anthony and Andrew. She was the great grandmother of Ashley, Michael, P.J and Emmaleigh. She is also survived by her close friend Sheila Klimek.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave Wakefield on Tuesday at 9:00A.M. followed by a funeral mass at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10:00 o'clock. Visitations for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 p.m.
Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
