Col. Angelo M. Semenza, USMC (Ret.) age 88, of Wakefield died on Saturday, February 3 at his residence with his family at his bedside.
Born in Revere on August 27, 1929, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Marie (Repucci) Semenza.
Col. Semenza was raised in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School. He then went on to receive his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and his Master's Degree from Northeastern University. He had enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and ultimately retired as a Colonel. Following his active duty in Korea, Col. Semenza served in the Reserves for many years and also volunteered at Hanscomb Air Force Base. He also worked at General Foods (Atlantic Gelatin) of Woburn for over 30 years, retiring as a Quality Control Manager.
Col. Semenza was a longtime Wakefield resident and was a member of St. Joseph Parish. He loved to whistle and was an avid reader and volunteered much of his time at the Beebe Library. He enjoyed golfing, as well as travel, as documented by his numerous refrigerator magnets. He had been all over the world. Col. Semenza was also a lover of music and often times, to the amusement of his family, could be found conducting military marches throughout the halls of his home.
He was the beloved husband of the late Rose L. (DiGerolamo) Semenza. He is survived his three sons: Stephen Semenza and wife Natalie of Middleton, Paul Semenza and wife Constance of Wakefield, Mark Semenza and wife Kathryn of Tewksbury; his daughter: Christine Caloggero and her husband Joseph of Medford; his nine grandchildren: Cassandra, Brianna, Alexandra, Michael, Carla, Crystal, Craig, Sara, and Shannon; his two great grandchildren: Jared and Julianna; as well as his sisters, Connie Vellardochia of Andover and Marguerite Bernard of Woburn.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Thursday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8pm. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Mausoleum in Malden.
