Cpt. George F. Ohlson, 78, of Wakefield died on Sunday, June 22 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
Born in Winthrop on March 29, 1936, he was the son of the late James and Margaret (Shea) Ohlson.
Cpt. Ohlson was a graduate of Charlestown High School, Class of 1954. He had been a Wakefield resident for the 44 years. Cpt. Ohlson had retired in 1999 as a Boston Harbor Pilot. He had his Harbor Pilots license in Boston Harbor, Quincy Harbor and Lynn Harbor. Cpt. Ohlson was a member of the American Pilot Association and the Boston Marine Society.
He is survived by his wife Eileen F. (Homer) Ohlson, his daughter Kathleen A. Ohlson of Newton, his son George F. Ohlson, Jr. and his wife Tina of Reading, his two grandchildren; Michael and Michelle Ohlson, his two sister's-in-law Alma Homer and Joan Homer both of Revere. Cpt. Ohlson is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother James Ohlson.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield at 10am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8pm. Interment will be at Winthrop Cemetery in Winthrop.
