Daniel Robert “Bob” Mitchell, age 90, of Lynnfield and Naples, FL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. He was the cherished husband of the love of his life, the late Joan (Connor) Mitchell of Lynnfield. Born in Charlestown, he was the son of the late Daniel P. Mitchell and the late Katherine (Minehan) Mitchell and the brother of the late Joan (Mitchell) Hook Mulkerrin. Bob was the devoted and loving father of Bob Jr. (Sue), Jane Mitchell and Susan Mitchell Keene (Brad). He was the loving Papa of his four cherished granddaughters, Alana Julian, Lily Keene, Ashley Mitchell and Brooke Mitchell and many loved cousins, nephews, nieces, grand- nephews, grand-nieces and wonderful friends.
Bob grew up in Charlestown and Winthrop. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston and was a proud graduate of Boston College. He began his career working for Sheraton Hotels, the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Brede Exposition Services promoting Boston and New England as a destination for business, professional associations and tourism. There was no better ambassador for Boston than Bob. He was a renaissance man, who took BC’s motto “Ever to Excel” to heart. He raced Olympic Star class sailboats from his youth through his forties, sailed throughout New England with his wife and family through his sixties, and excelled at golf throughout his seventies and eighties. Bob embraced life with zest and love. Bob loved skiing, beginning in the early 1950’s, regaling his family with stories of hiking and skiing the Headwall at Tuckerman’s Ravine with his friends and celebrated his 80th birthday skiing Cannon Mountain. He played bridge, loved classical music, opera, and Patriot and BC football. His joy was contagious, his elegance and charm undeniable, and his love for his wife, and family heartbreakingly beautiful.
He was a late member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop, Quail Run Golf Club in Naples, FL and a faithful communicant of the Ave Maria parish in Lynnfield, MA.
