Deborah Somers

Deborah Plumb Gibson "Debby" Somers , 66, of Wakefield passed away July 25th at the age of 66, in her Wakefield home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Debby was born in Boston July 5, 1945 to Priscilla (Plumb) Gibson and the late Stewart K Gibson, II. Debby was raised in Waltham, graduating from the Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School in 1963. She received her B.A. from the Western College for Women (Miami University, Oxford, Ohio) in 1968. Debby married Paul Charles Somers in August 1969, and they resided in Newton, before moving to Wakefield in 1978.

Debby was an amazing woman of boundless energy. She was a friend to all, and her warm smile could make the darkest day bright and cheery. This, along with her wit and ingenuity often made her endeavors appear effortless. She was an active contributor to the community, from years served as PTO President, to the numerous charities she supported, to her service work with the First Parish Congregational Church. She was an endeared employee of Century 21 Commonwealth of Wakefield, where she worked as a realtor for over 20 years, remaining active through this year.

Debby was the nucleus of her family, taking great pleasure in preparing holiday celebrations and gatherings. She enjoyed cooking, making her famous ice cream cakes and popcorn balls, gardening in her yard, and summer camping trips. She had a deep appreciation for nature and all living creatures, especially the family pets. She had a passion for meteorology and was thrilled by a good snowstorm. Her love for her family and friends was endless and she will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Debby was a devoted and loving wife to her husband of 41 years, Paul. She was the cherished mother of Jennifer and her husband Gregory Moon, her son Matthew, her daughter Elizabeth and her husband Jack Curran, and her son Jeffrey. She was a loving Grammy to her three granddaughters, Sydney and Adeline Moon and Samantha Curran. She was a dear daughter to her mother, Priscilla, of Waltham, MA, dear sister to Cindy and her husband Rodney Sargent of West Baldwin, ME, and her brother Stewart K. Gibson, III of Waltham, MA. She was beloved by many dear siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives, as well as numerous friends and her dear pets.
