Dominick Joseph "Joe" DiMare, 89, of Beverly, formerly of Stoneham died Thursday, October 20 at the Blueberry Hill Rehab in Beverly.
Born in Boston on May 12, 1927 he was the son of the late Charles J. and Anne (Fazio) DiMare.
Joe was raised in the West End of Boston and was a graduate of Malden Catholic High School. He then went on to serve in the US Navy during World War II. He went to work as a lobster fisherman on a boat in Boston Harbor with his father before taking his work to land where he started DiMare Lobster Co., a wholesale distributor of live lobster and shellfish. Later he merged his successful business with Hines & Smart Corp. "packers of DiMare brand products" and became the pioneer in long distance shipping of their products throughout the continental United States, a vocation he remained until his retirement. Joe enjoyed stamps, coins, and the stock market. He also enjoyed winters spent in Florida and travelling with his wife.
He was the devoted husband of Mary A. (Albaro) DiMare, with whom he spent 65 years of marriage. He was the beloved father of Richard C. DiMare and his wife Marie of Marblehead, Donna (DiMare) Cody and her husband Richard J. of No. Reading, Joseph DiMare of West Yarmouth, and Paul DiMare and his wife Donna of Marblehead. He was the loving grandfather of Elizabeth, Jennifer, Katie, Jonathan, Christopher, Bryan, Matthew, Jaclyn, Francesca, Andrew, Abby, Madelyn, & the late Colin. Also survived by ten great grandchildren. He was the brother of Salvatore DiMare of Ipswich, James DiMare of FL, and Charles DiMare of Peabody.
His Funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Tuesday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10am. Interment to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 8pm.
