Doris Ann Comeford, 89, passed away peacefully while in hospice care in Carlisle, MA on December 5, 2013 surrounded by family. Born in Everett, MA on January 2, 1924, she was a lifelong resident of both Wakefield and Stoneham. She was the daughter of Ernest and Ruth (Mills) Spear and the beloved wife of the late John C. Comeford. Doris was raised in Everett, MA and graduated from Everett High School and Mary Brooks Secretarial School of Boston. For many years she worked as an administrative assistant at Revere Knitting Mills and Lam Lighting Systems in Wakefield.
Doris is survived by her daughters Diane Calore and her husband Peter of Vista, CA, Nancy Brown and her husband Randy of Carlisle, MA and daughter-in-law Shirley Stone of Amesbury, MA. She was predeceased by her son, J. David Comeford. She is also survived by her six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Doris was an avid Crossword Puzzler and Scrabble player and greatly enjoyed time spent playing with friends at the Stoneham Senior Center on Fridays. She also loved spending time with her family and friends, reading, and relaxing at her home in Chelsea, Vermont. For many years, Doris was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church and served on the Woman's Alter Guild. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A private family service was held at the McDonald Funeral Home and interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Chelsea, Vermont.
