Doris Gloria DiGiammarino , age 90, of Wakefield died Sunday, July 16 in Maine.
Born in Boston on April 3, 1927 she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Giovanna (Sinagra) Capone.
Mrs. DiGiammarino was raised in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School and later went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Lowell University at the age of 52. She had been a longtime Wakefield resident, living in the area for more than 53 years and was a member of St. Joseph Church for 40 years. Mrs. DiGiammarino had worked as a history teacher at both the Lynnfield and Wakefield Middle Schools. During her retirement, she volunteered as an usher at the Stoneham Theater, she worked the polls for Wakefield elections, and helped to run the Crystal Driving School in Wakefield. She loved to quilt, paint, and whittle; as well as to plant her flowers and work in her garden.
She was the beloved wife of the late Dominic DiGiammarino . She was the loving mother of Chris DiGiammarino and his wife Dawn of Kittery Point, ME, Joanne Hyde and her husband Ernie of Falmouth, and Dawn Tyrrell and her husband Danny of Chelmsford. She was the grandmother of Lisa Jukes, Steven Hyde, Lexi Norton, Samantha Magliozzi, Melissa Walsh, and Jay Garcia. She is also survived by three great grandchildren: Christopher and Ryan Jukes and Carter Hoyt. She was predeceased by nine siblings.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10am. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8pm. Entombment at the Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in Malden.
