Doris M. Dwyer, 96, of Wakefield, formerly of Chelsea died on Tuesday, August 19, at her home following a brief illness.
Born in Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland on May 21, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Anne (Lynch) Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Dwyer was a native of Ireland and had worked at the Chelsea Soldiers Home for 45 years. Following her retirement, and up to her recent illness, she was for many years, a volunteer at the Spaulding Hospital in Boston, while also volunteering at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was also a member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Wakefield.
Mrs. Dwyer was the wife of the late John P. Dwyer. She was the loving mother of John M. Dwyer and his wife Lynne of Middleboro, Patricia Dwyer of Brockton, Mary Dwyer of Wakefield, Eileen Dwyer of Auburn, WA and Barbara Dwyer-Heidkamp and her husband Andrew Heidkamp of Wakefield. She was the grandmother of John Dwyer, David Dwyer, Janet Shea, Patricia Kennedy, Joan Kreiger, Colleen Nolan, Margret Boettcher, Karen Crafts, Jenny Crafts, Sarah Dwyer-Heidkamp, Daniel Dwyer Heidkamp, Kevin Dwyer-Heidkamp and James Dwyer. She is also survived by her 16 great grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Friday at 9:00 A.M. followed by a funeral mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10:00 o'clock. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
