Doris Figueira

Doris J . Figueira , 70, of Melrose was granted her angel wings on April 28, 2011. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Mrs. Fig had touched in some small way throughout her life.

Doris was born in Cambridge on November 25, 1940 to James Martell and Doris Horne-Martell who preceded her. She was the oldest of 3 siblings. Doris loved good food, socializing with her friends and family and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. Doris worked at various positions throughout her life but prided herself on being a wonderful mother, generous friend, animal lover and outstanding baker. Mrs. Fig was an active member of Circle 4 of Melrose, Camp Fire Girl Leader and the World's biggest Wakefield Women's Softball League Fan.

Doris is survived by her daughter Kim Figueira and partner Terrie O'Brien, son Scott Figueira and wife Renee Figueira; grandchildren Austin Figueira , Itia Figueira and David Wonoski; sister Judy Portanova; brother James Martell Jr. and Phyllis Martell and her cherished aunt Virginia Tavilla; nieces and nephews, Heather and Jon Piasecki, Craig Portanova, Dineen and Corey Marshall and Hydee and Chris Gagnon.

A funeral service will be held in the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ, 121 West Foster Street, Melrose on Monday at 11 o'clock. A visitation period will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970.
