Doris M . Dwyer , 96, of Wakefield, formerly of Chelsea died on Tuesday, August 19, at her home following a brief illness.

Born in Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland on May 21, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Anne (Lynch) Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Dwyer was a native of Ireland and had worked at the Chelsea Soldiers Home for 45 years. Following her retirement, and up to her recent illness, she was for many years, a volunteer at the Spaulding Hospital in Boston, while also volunteering at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was also a member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Wakefield.

Mrs. Dwyer was the wife of the late John P. Dwyer . She was the loving mother of John M . Dwyer and his wife Lynne of Middleboro, Patricia Dwyer of Brockton, Mary Dwyer of Wakefield, Eileen Dwyer of Auburn, WA and Barbara Dwyer-Heidkamp and her husband Andrew Heidkamp of Wakefield. She was the grandmother of John Dwyer , David Dwyer , Janet Shea, Patricia Kennedy, Joan Kreiger, Colleen Nolan, Margret Boettcher, Karen Crafts, Jenny Crafts, Sarah Dwyer-Heidkamp, Daniel Dwyer Heidkamp, Kevin Dwyer-Heidkamp and James Dwyer . She is also survived by her 16 great grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Friday at 9:00 A.M. followed by a funeral mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10:00 o'clock. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
