Doris O'Neil

Doris T. O'Neil, age 87, of Wakefield, formerly of Lynnfield and Everett, died Monday, July 30 at the Brightview Senior Living Center in Wakefield.

Born in Everett on September 3, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Walter and Bridget (Southwell) Seward.

Mrs. O'Neil was raised in Everett and was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Revere, Class of 1948. She had worked for many years as a secretary at American Mutual Insurance in Wakefield. She began her family in Everett before making the family home in Lynnfield in 1974. She also spent her summers at her Cape house in the Popponesset area of Mashpee; as well as enjoying time at Sebago Lake in Maine. Above all, Mrs. O'Neil cherished her role as big sister, mother, and grandmother and most enjoyed time spent with her family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Attorney Richard J. O'Neil. She was the loving mother of Richard J. O'Neil, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Lynnfield, Barbara J. O'Neil Smith and her late husband David B. Smith of North Reading, Patricia M. Messer and her husband Gregory P. of Charlestown, Eileen T. O'Neil and her husband Mark S. Butler of Boston, Susan E. Forrest and her husband George of Kennebunk, ME, David E. O'Neil and his wife Susanne of Quincy, and the late Lori A. Ouellette and Stephen O'Neil. She was the mother-in-law of Lawrence N. Ouellette of Westford. She was the cherished "Nana" to 13 grandchildren. She was the sister of Shirley Sullivan, Barbara Kirby, Mary Barker, Alice Porcaro, and the late Lorraine LaVasseur, Margaret Martin, John Seward, William Seward, and Walter Seward. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as many and dear friends in Wakefield, both new and old.

Her Funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody at 10:30am. Interment, Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8pm.
