Dorothy J. "Jeanette" Charles , 94, of Melrose and formerly Stoneham died at the Winchester Hospital on Thursday, September 18.
Born in Woburn on January 15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Laura (Meagher) Forrest.
Mrs. Charles was raised and educated in the Stoneham Public School system and had been a Stoneham resident for 75 years before moving to Melrose. She had been a waitress in many of the local area restaurants including: The Red Coach Grill, The White Spot, Wes Parkers, The Continental and many other restaurants. A former member of the First Baptist Church in Stoneham, Mrs. Charles enjoyed cooking and sewing.
Mrs. Charles was the beloved wife of the late Thomas E. Charles . She was the loving mother of Norma Laura Smith and her husband Richard of Atkinson, NH, Carol Pigott and her husband Arthur of Burlington, Kevin Forrest Gile of Tyngsboro, D. Jeannette Charles and her husband Steven Boynton of Westford, and the late Robert Gile. She was the sister of the late Robert and Clayton Forrest. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
A Funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 457 Main St. in Stoneham on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at Lindenwood Cemetery in Stoneham.
