Dorothy Doherty

Dorothy A. Doherty, 89, of Altoona, Pennsylvania formerly of Wakefield and Stoneham, died on Wednesday, May 23 at the Altoona Regional Health System.

Born in Woburn on September 15, 1922 she was the daughter of the late William H. and Mary Ellen (Carroll) Gay.

Mrs. Doherty was a graduate of Stoneham High School. She had been a Wakefield resident since 1942 before moving to Altoona, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Doherty was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Wakefield.

Dorothy was the wife of the late John W. Doherty II. She is the beloved mother of Eileen Estright and her husband James of Altoona, PA and the late John W. Doherty III (wife, Jean.) Mrs. Doherty was the sister of Sister Kathleen Mary Gay and the late Edna Gay, Marjorie Gay and William Gay Jr. She was the cherished grandmother of Michele Leamer (husband Jeff), Lisa Hawn (husband Michael), Lori Yeager, Matthew and Sean Doherty. Dorothy was the great grandmother of Katy and Kelley Leamer and Jacob Hawn with whom she enjoyed spending time with.

She is also surived by close friend Sister Agnes Clare. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Tuesday at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St, Wakefield Tuesday May 29th at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home Monday from 6:00 - 8:00 Interment will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Stoneham.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Parish, 173 Albion St, Wakefield, MA 01880.
