Dr. Anthony Cipriano

Dr. Anthony V. Cipriano, 90, of Wakefield died on Wednesday, October 19 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Boston on April 19, 1921 he was the son of the late Joseph and Carmela (Sicuso) Cipriano.

Dr. Cipriano was a graduate of Boston Trade School and Fitchburg State College. He earned a Master's Degree in Education from Boston University and a Ph. D. from the University of Connecticut. A veteran of World War II he served in the U.S. Army.

Dr. Cipriano was a proven leader in education and served on estate, educational, guidance, environmental, energy, and legislative committees. He was a member of St. Joseph Church. He also served on the parish school advisory board and was the chairman of the youth parish recreation committee in Boston. He was a charter member and former secretary of the Board of Director of Catholic Charities, a Past Commander of the American Legion in West Roxbury and also served on the School Committee in Somerville.

He was the brother of Leo Cipriano of Melrose, Janet Cipriano and Josephine Rufo both of Wakefield and the late Millie and Salvatore Cipriano. He was the uncle of Geri Sannella, Christine Scoppettuolo, Michael Cipriano and Cheryl Slauenwhite. He is also survived by 6 great nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
