Edith Miller Coflan, 94, passed away on Easter Sunday April 5, 2015 in Lynnfield following a brief illness. She was born in Winchester, MA on April 22, 1920 the daughter of the late Henry F. and Edith (Proctor) Miller deceased (of the Miller Piano Company, Wakefield).
Alongside her husband Frank J. Coflan, Edith was a lifelong resident of Wakefield. She was a loving and supportive mother who encouraged her children and grand children to be creative and to appreciate the natural world. Edith was a devoted member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Wakefield. She was also a member of the Wakefield Arts and Crafts Society where she was an accomplished painter, woodcarver, quilter and knitter. Edith forged a rewarding career with Digital Equipment Corp where she enjoyed the founding of the computer age while making many friends.
During her lifetime Edith collected an impressive library of books providing inspiration for her artwork. Edith was a curious person with an engaging personality who continued to meet new people throughout her 94 years, corresponding with many around the world through long letters. She will be missed most for her interest in the world and those around her.
Edith leaves Joan Crowley (husband Joseph) Wayne, NJ, Susan Luca (husband Richard) Newburyport, MA, Sandra Martin (husband Ashton Woodhouse) Wolfeboro, NH, Marcia VanOlinda (husband Mark) Milford, NH and Barry Coflan (wife Christine) North Andover, MA. She was a grandmother to 27. Edith was predeceased by her husband Frank, her brothers Proctor and Henry and her sister Dorothy.
A funeral service will be held in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 5 Bryant St, Wakefield on Wednesday at 12pm. Visitation for relatives and friends at the McDonald Funeral Home., 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield prior to the service from 10 to 11:30 am. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
