Edith I. Russo of Lynnfield and formerly of Wakefield died Friday Jan. 29 at age 93. Born in Boston on December 14, 1916 she was the daughter of the late Concezio and Olivia (Sgamurro) Panaro. Mrs. Russo was raised in East Boston and was a graduate of E. Boston High School. She had been a long time Wakefield resident making her home on Woodcrest Drive. She was retired from Wakefield Engineering and had also worked at the Watertown Arsenal. Mrs. Russo was active in the Wakefield community and was a member of the Wakefield Council on Aging, St. Florence Church and the Ladies Sodality of the church. She also worked for the town for many years on election day.
She was the wife of the late Salvatore J. Russo. She is survived by her 3 sons, Dr. Joseph P. Russo of Andover and his fiance Sharon Black, Edward J. Russo and his wife Sharon Chapman of Wakefield and Dr. Thomas P. Russo and his wife Cathy of Winchester. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her brother Nino Panaro and her sister Olga Panaro.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield Monday at 9am followed by a funeral mass in St. Florence Church 47 Butler Ave. Wakefield at 10:00. Interment will be held at Forest Glade Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday 1-5 pm.
