Edward J. Haladay, 92, a lifelong Wakefield resident, died at the Epoch Health Care Center in Melrose, Sunday July 6.
Born in Wakefield on March 13, 1916, he was the son of the late Julian and Agnes (Pieczatka) Haladay.
Mr. Haladay was a graduate of Wakefield High School and was selected as the best Wakefield High School Shortstop of all time. He also played in the Army and the Vernon A.C's. He was an avid High School and Professional sports fan.
Mr. Haladay was a World War II Army veteran serving his country from 1942 to 1946. He received numerous ribbons and was the recipient of 3 Bronze Stars and the distinguished Purple Heart while serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a finished carpenter and later worked for AVCO in Wilmington.
Mr. Haladay was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Wakefield Elks Lodge 1276 and the VFW.
His priorities in life were Family, God and Country
Mr. Haladay was the husband of Mary (O'Neill) Haladay. He was the father of Sheila Putnam and her husband Steve, John Haladay and his wife Suellen, Jean Yentile and her husband James, Mary Ann Mueller and her husband Donald all of Wakefield, Patricia Haladay and her partner Lorie Spull of Cambridge and the late Edward J. Haladay, Jr. He was the brother of the late Joseph, Fred and John Haladay. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his granddogs.
