Sujko
(Sujkowski) 86, a long-time resident of Wakefield, MA, died on August 7, 2010, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, following a recent decline in health.
Mr.
Sujko
was born in Chelsea, MA, on October, 12, 1923, to Stefan and Anna Sujkowski. He attended schools in Chelsea, graduating from Chelsea High School in 1941.
He joined in the U.S. Marines and served as a Radar Radio Gunner and mechanic in the Asiatic Pacific Area during WW2. He was the recipient of numerous awards, most notably the Air Medal, awarded in the name of the President of the United States, "for meritorious achievement in aerial flight while serving as a Radio Gunner of a Torpedo Bomber plane in Marine Torpedo Bomber Squadron 131 during operations against the enemy forces in the vicinity of Okinawa, Rykyu Islands, from 5 to 6 June 1945. Completing his fifth mission during this period, Corporal
Sujko
contributed materially to the success of his plane. His courage and devotion to duty in the face of grave hazards were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service." (For the President, document signed by Francis P. Matthews, Secretary of the Navy.)
Following his military obligations, he worked in various jobs, most recently at the Colonial Country Club, and retired from there in the early 80s. But being an aspiring aviator, Mr.
Sujko
pursued aviation training and flew frequently as a pilot with the Civil Air Patrol in the local area.

was the father of John E.

of Ithaca, NY, Paula

. Buckle of Belmont, NH, and Carl S.
Sujko
of Wakefield. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren; Johanna Lincoln of Myrtle Beach, SC, Danielle Johanson of Big Flatts, NY, Sean
Sujko
of Elmira, NY, Matthew Buckle of South Korea and Amy Buckle of Belmont, NH, Lee Johnson, Anna

and Julia
Sujko
all of Wakefield and many great grandchildren. Mr.
Sujko
was predeceased by his brother Stanley
Sujko
and his sister Stephanie Dradranski. He was also predeceased by his former wife, Roberta Reid
Sujko
.
A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday from 4-8pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.
