Eileen F. Cronan, 66, of Melrose formerly of Somerville, died Monday, August 29 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.

Born in Malden on May 15, 1950 she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Foley) Spellman.

Eileen was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Somerville, Class of 1968. She then went on to receive her nursing certificate from St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing; after which she went on to work for 45 years as a Registered Nurse in hospitals, nursing homes, and home healthcare. She was well loved by her friends at the Washington Street Condos, and was an unsung hero, silently advocating and helping her neighbors. Above all, Eileen's greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, Devin and Lily.

She was the loving mother of Stephanie M. Cronan and her husband Rick Pulsifer of Winthrop. She was the adoring grandmother of Devin and Lily. She was the sister of Joan Van Laethem and her husband Bob of No. Reading, Edward Spellman and his wife Judith of Charlottesville, VA, Daniel Spellman and his wife MaryEllen of Norwich, CT, Patrick Spellman and his wife Allyson of Medford, and Mary Ellen Johnson and her husband Matt of Andover. She was the sister-in-law of Sheila Spellman of Stoneham. She was the aunt of Matthew, Lauren, Allison, Jason, Emma, Mollee, Shane, Bailey, Jennifer, Andrew, Danny, and Liam. She is also survived by several grandnieces & nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eileen's name may be made to Sawtelle Family Hospice House, 607 North Avenue, Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
