Elaine Melanson

Elaine M. Melanson, 73, of Wakefield died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 22 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Elaine was the daughter of the late Edward J. Meuse and Hannah (Buckley) Meuse and the only sister of Edward J. Meuse, Jr. who all predeceased her. Her brother was MIA in Korea in 1953.

She was a lifelong resident of Wakefield and a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1953 and later worked for TWA.

She was the loving wife of the late Howard E. Melanson, Sr. who predeceased her in 1998. Mother of John E. and his wife Bridget of Yardley, PA, Joanne Cronin and her husband Jack of Annapolis, MD, Thomas H. and his wife Suzzanne, Edward J. and his wife Jennifer, Peter G. and his wife Molly, Dennis P. and his wife Lisa , Timothy D. and his wife Maura, & Howard E. Melanson, Jr. and his wife Kerri all of Wakefield. She is also survived by her 21 grandchildren: Timothy, Katie, and Melissa Cronin; Brian, Matthew, Amanda, Michael, Joseph, Hannah, Dylan, Ellie, Steven, David, Max, Luke, Hope, Sarah, Madelyn, Howard E. III, Caroline and Rebecca Melanson.

After her mother's passing when Elaine was in high School, she lived with Paul and Florence Sheldon. She is also survived by Robert Sheldon of Wakefield, Claire White of Methuen, and Edward Sheldon of California. Paul, Florence and Ann (Palmer) Sheldon predeceased her.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield Monday at 9 am followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10:00 o'clock. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-6 pm. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
