Ellen Powers Quinn, 95, a life long resident of Wakefield died on Sunday, December 23 at her home.
Born in Wakefield on December 19, 1917 she was the daughter of the late Matthew J. and Julia J. (Boland) Burns.
Ellen was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1935 and Bryant-Stratton Business School in Boston. She was an active member at St. Joseph parish and a member of the St. Joseph's Mothers Association. Ellen was a past president of the Kosmos Club, First President of the Junior Catholic Club, member of Our Lady of Nazareth Academy Guild and a volunteer for over 20 years at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was also active in the Wakefield Citizens Scholarship and the Catholic Club.
Ellen was the wife of the late Edward L. Quinn. She was the mother of Edward L. Quinn, Jr. of Laguna Niguel, CA, Judith A. Wallace of Wakefield and Mary Ellen King of Salina, KS. She was the sister of Mary E. Lally and Matthew J. Burns, Jr. both of Wakefield and the late Reverend Lawrence J. Burns, M.M. She was the grandmother of Wendy, William, Amy and Shawn Wallace, Julie King, and Erin and Shannon Quinn. She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Stoneham.
