Elmer Melanson, Jr.

Elmer "Butch" F . Melanson , Jr . of Lynnfield, died Sunday January 1, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Stoneham on July 24, 1947 he was the son of Pricilla (Carbone) Melanson of Middleton and the late Elmer "Lefty" F . Melanson .

Butch was a graduate of Lynnfield High School, Class of 1965. He was a member of the Lynnfield High School hockey team and remained passionate about the sport throughout his life. He started "The Lynnfield OT's" and traveled to many tournaments over the years. In two of the tournaments The Old Boars in Maine and SEV Tournament in Montréal, Canada divisions were named in his honor.

He was a retired salesman and had worked for Tilo in Saugus and Redhead Manufacturing in Rhode Island. He was a United States Coast Guard Veteran. He was also an organ donor and believed his mission in life was to make people laugh, smile and be happy.

Butch was the husband of the late Marilyn K. (Ihnet) Melanson . In addition to his mother he is survived by his four children Blaine M. Melanson and Kim B. Melanson both of FL and Kristyn M. and Kelly M. Melanson both of Peabody, his longtime companion Donna Memont of Saugus, his four brothers Bruce E. Melanson of ME, Barry A. Melanson of Middleton, Brian L. Melanson of NH, and Brad M. Melanson of Georgetown. He is also survived by his two grandchildren Jesse DelTorro and Savannah Seiler.

A service for Butch will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at 11am. A visitation for relatives and friends will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 3-8pm. Interment, Forest Hill Cemetery, Lynnfield.
