Esther Rattray

Esther L.Rattray, 109, of Longmeadow and formerly of Wakefield passed away January 25th at the Jewish Nursing Center in Longmeadow.

Born in Wakefield on August 17, 1902, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Winifred (Devlin) Lindsay.

Mrs. Rattray was a graduate of Wakefield High School, class of 1920. A Wakefield resident for 99 years, Esther moved to Longmeadow to be closer to her daughter. She was a member of the 1st Parish Congregational Church of Wakefield for over 80 years. She was a past Matron of Harmony Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Wakefield. Esther had also lived in Reading at the Longwood Place where she celebrated her 100th birthday with many friends and family members in attendance.

Mrs. Rattray was the wife of the late William A. Rattray, with whom she was married to for 64 years. She was the mother of Jean Fraser of Longmeadow and the late William A. Rattray, Jr, a retired Lt. Col. Esther was the grandmother of William A. Rattray III of Huntington Beach, California, Gary Rattray of San Diego, California, Scott Rattray of Nashville, Tennessee, Andrew Fraser of East Longmeadow and David Fraser of Westfield. Also surviving is her daughter-in –law Sally Rattray of San Diego. Mrs. Rattray was the sister of Bertha L. Peterson of Stoneham and the late Ruth L. Doucet. She is also survived by one great grandson and seven great granddaughters.

A Memorial Service will be held at the First Parish Congregational Church 1 Church St. Wakefield on Saturday February 18 at 1:00 pm . Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Private interment was held a Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.

Donations may be made in Esther's memory to First Parish Congregational Church, 1 Church St., P.O. Box M, Wakefield, MA 01880.

Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home.
