Eugene J. Foley of Bedford, MA, 89, a former longtime resident of Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, passed away on February 20, 2015. Beloved husband of Ann (DeCotiis) Foley, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Loving father of Thomas of Groveland, and wife Marguerite, Marianne Weichselbaum of Burlington and husband Paul, Eugene Foley Jr. of Lexington and wife Rhonda and daughter Karen Foley of Stoneham. Devoted grandfather of eight and great grandfather of four.
He was a Navy veteran who honorably served aboard the battleship El Dorado in World War II. One of his proudest memories of his service years was his witnessing of the raising of the American Flag on Iwo Jima near the end of World War II. He enjoyed attending with his wife annual reunions of his ship mates held in various parts of the US. He was also a long time member and past officer of the VFW in Carlstadt, New Jersey.
His occupations included draftsman for many years with the Bendix Corporation in Teterboro, N.J., Investigator for the Legalized Games of Chance Division of the State of New Jersey and salesman for Hudson City Paper Co. in West Caldwell, N.J. He was an avid salt water fisherman and some of his most joyous times were spent in a boat on the New Jersey coast flounder fishing.
He will be remembered by all who knew and loved him for his wonderful sense of humor, his ability to figure out how to make and fix almost anything, his loyalty to family and friends, and his innate ability to be grateful for all the blessings in his life.
Visitations for family and friends will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham, MA on Sunday, February 22, 2015. Hours are 2p.m to 6p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham, MA on Monday, February 23, 2015 at 9a.m. Burial is at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Stoneham following the mass.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in memory of Eugene Foley, Sr. to Voluntary Services VA Hospital, 200 Springs Rd., Bedford, MA 01730.
