. 87, of Walpole and formerly Wakefield, entered into eternal life on Sunday, June 5.
Born in South Boston on April 16, 1924 he was the devoted son of the late

McSweeney
Sr. and Jane F. (Monahan)
McSweeney
.
He was a former resident of Hyde Park, Stoneham and Dedham Mass. He was a graduate of Boston English High School (1941), Brown University (AB 1945), Babson College (MBA 1967), Cornell University Midshipman School (1944). Mr.
McSweeney
was formerly employed at the Research Career Unilever Corp. and also at the Arthur D. Little Co. consultants. Gene achieved the commission of Lieutenant (junior grade) and served as Executive Officer aboard the USS LST 969. He was awarded the World War II Victory medal, American Theater Ribbon and Asiatic Theater Ribbon. Following his release from active duty he was affiliated with the US Naval Air Reserve Program, retiring as Captain US Navy after 33 years of devoted service to his country. His affiliations include: Reserve Officers Association of the United States (past national Navy President), Military Officers Association of America, US LST Association, Reserve Officers Association League, Association of Naval Aviation, Military Order of the World Wars, Naval Wardroom Club, and the Old Foggies Club.

was the loving husband of the late Patricia R. (Healy)
McSweeney
with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. He was the brother of the late Donald F.
McSweeney
. He is survived by his nephew Fred E.
McSweeney
and his wife Cheryl of Falmouth and his nieces, Donna Gannon and her husband Brian and Denise Russell and her husband Bob all of Walpole and Karen McDermott and her husband Paul of Dedham. He is also survived by 3 grand nephews and 6 grand nieces and his sister-in-law Frances Patricia

A Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, June 8, at 12:00 noon at St. Susanna's Catholic Church in Dedham, MA. Visiting hours prior to the Mass from 9:00-11:00 at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield. Following services, interment will be at Mount Benedict cemetery in West Roxbury. Donations in Gene's memory should be made to a charity of your choice.
