Eveline R. Whelchel, 91, of Wakefield died on Thursday, January 22 at the Golden Living Elmhurst in Melrose.
Born in Boston on December 27, 1923 she was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Meehan) Laundry.
Mrs. Whelchel was raised in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School. She had been a Wakefield resident since 1963. Mrs. Whelchel was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Wakefield.
She worked for many years at the Crystal Laundromat on Elm Street. She enjoyed working on 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzles, reading and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Burl Whelchel, her son James A. Whelchel of Wakefield, her three daughters; Carol Leland and her husband Allen of Stoneham, Cathy M. Hubis of PA and Alice W. Popp of Wakefield, her brother Ralph Laundry of Bedford and her sister Mildred Hamlin of Rehoboth. Mrs. Whelchel is also survived by her four grandchildren; Jayne and Joshua Leland and Valerie and Stephen Hubis.
A funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday, February 2, at 12noon. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home prior to the service starting at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, 565 Ashford Center Road, Ashford, CT 06278.
